Born on Vancouver Island, Dale moved to Haney with his maternal grandparents at 2yrs of age.  When he was around 4, he used to ride on the running board while hanging onto the spare tire of a 1929 Ford which was driven ( slowly ) by the local mailman as he made his rounds.  For Dale, that was the beginning of a lifelong passion for the beauty of cars and trucks whether they be new, used or dilapidated sitting in a field.  When he first started grade school at Websters Corner in the early ‘50s, he found that by pushing a pencil here and there on a piece of paper, he could draw cars.

That was good and that was bad.  Since then, all through his school years, more times than not, instead of listening to what the teacher was saying, he would listen to what a piece of paper was trying to tell him ; and over the years he has learned that to an artist, every piece of paper or canvas, lump of clay, block of wood or stone is trying to communicate to them,  just as to a poet or song writer every letter of the alphabet is saying “ Put me in order for I have something to say “.

After graduating from The Kootenay School of Art in Nelson,  a number of years were spent in the Commercial art trade and related fields, then the opportunity arose to go freelance, freeing up time to dedicate more time to fine art.   Except for his Commercial art training, Dale is a self taught artist in the mediums of :  drawing in the cross hatch style of pen and ink, pen and ink with watercolor wash, acrylic, airbrush, and clay sculpting.  Dale has had several public art exhibitions and he is a member of the Garibaldi Art Club , Maple Ridges’ oldest art club.
